Tafwyl is an annual festival celebrating the best of the Welsh language, arts and culture. It plays a key role in Menter Caerdydd’s strategy, a charity that promotes and extends the social use of the Welsh language in Cardiff with the ambition that the Welsh language becomes an integral part of life in the capital.
Tafwyl’s audience has grown impressively over the years from just over a thousand people in 2006, to nearly 40,000 attendees in 2019. It’s a free event, open to all – Welsh speakers, Welsh leaners and non-Welsh speakers alike, appealing to families and people of all ages and backgrounds.
2019 highlights included – over 60 live bands, over 60 partners and sponsors, 30 performances on the School Stage, 30 fringe events held over 9 days, over 130 volunteers and staff, 30 stalls and crafts, 15 street food stalls and ONE BIG PARTY!
The 2017 Festival was awarded the tile Best Cardiff Festival in the Cardiff Music Awards; Tafwyl 2018 scooped one of the top awards at the Arts & Business Cymru Awards ceremony.
Tafwyl is a partnership between the public, private and voluntary sectors that enables us through grants and funding to create a free and vibrant Welsh language event in the heart of the Capital City of Wales.
We value Cardiff Council’s support as we move to the beautiful surroundings of Bute Park; and look forward to working with FORCardiff who are appointed as the Festival’s new main sponsor for 2020.
